CONCERNING
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF LIVESTOCK FOR BREEDING FROM ABROAD

THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE,

Considering:

• a. that in order to increase the production, population and quality of livestock and the income of stock raiser it is deemed necessary to import livestock for breeding from abroad;
• b. that to ensure the quality and health of the livestock for breeding to be imported, it is deemed necessary to stipulate requirements for the importation of the said livestock from abroad.

In view of:

• 1. Law No. 6/1967 (Government Gazette of 1967 No. 10);
• 2. Government Regulation No. 15/1977 (Government Gazette of 1977 No. 20);
• 3. Government Regulation No. 16/1977 (Government Gazette of 1977 No. 20);
• 4. Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 44/1974;
• 5. Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 45/1975 connected with Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 47/1979;
• 6. Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 59/M/1978;
• 7. Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 453/Kpts/Org/6/1980.

HAS DECIDED

To Stipulate:

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF LIVESTOCK FOR BREEDING FROM ABROAD.

Article 1

As used in this Decree :

• a. Importation of livestock for breeding means the importation into the territory of the Republic of Indonesia of livestock for breeding from abroad;
• b. Livestock for breeding means all livestock including their sperms and embryos which fulfill certain conditions and criteria for culturing;
• c. Technical requirements means the criteria of quality for livestock for breeding;
• d. Animal health requirements means the requirements that must be complied with in respect of the importation into the territory of the Republic of Indonesia of livestock for breeding to prevent the introduction of contagious animal diseases from abroad.

Article 2

(1) Any person or body desiring to import livestock for breeding into the territory of Indonesia shall be required to obtain permit to import from the Director General of Livestock.

(2) The conditions and procedures to get a permit to import livestock for breeding shall be set forth by the Director General of Livestock.

Article 3

(1) Any livestock for breeding imported into the territory of Indonesia shall comply with the technical requirements which has been suited to the objective of development thereof.

(2) The technical requirements referred to in Paragraph (1) of this article shall include among others: race, age, sex, potential of reproduction, and or production;

(3) Any livestock for breeding imported into the territory of Indonesia shall comply with the animal health requirements;

(4) The requirements referred to in Paragraph (2) and (3) of this article except for dairy cattle shall be set forth by the Director General of Livestock.

Article 4

The Director General of Livestock shall determine the quantity, kind, and country of origin of the livestock for breeding to be imported on a yearly basis.

Article 5

The Director General of Livestock or an official appointed by him shall supervise the implementation of regulations referred to in Article 3.

Article 6

The technical and animal health requirements that have not yet been stipulated in this Decree shall be set forth by the Director General of Livestock.

Article 7

This Decree shall take effect on the date of issuance.
